SWINE FLU

***please see a message from the university relating to swine-flu***

Dear Student,

The University can confirm a member of staff has contracted swine influenza.  The individual is being treated with anti-viral drugs at home, is responding well to treatment from NHS staff, and is not considered to be in any danger.  It is believed the member of staff contracted the virus whilst travelling abroad.

Anyone worried they may have swine flu symptoms should stay at home and contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or telephone their GP.  In addition we have pulled together a webpage which contains a range of useful information www.leedsmet.ac.uk/flu

Please be vigilant at this time.  Look out for your friends and housemates; if you know anyone that has just returned from overseas and is displaying flu like symptoms, please ask them to stay indoors and follow the advice as above.

Trustees Wanted

Leeds Met Students' Union are recruiting students and external members to join their Board of Trustees in the summer of 2009 in the first wave of recruitments to the newly created body.  The Union has undergone a considerable change over the past months and now the new structure is beginning to take shape with ordinary students and external members being invited to join the body which is financially and legally responsible for the organisation. 

The President, Lewis Coakley said "it's great to be at the position where we can open applications from every day students to join the Board.  The experience for students will be amazing for their CVs and hopefully, if they can show the skills they have, we'll be able to add a lot to the Board as well".  Vicki Baars, the Associate President Welfare and Campaigns said "we've made a really bold decision to recruit experts to our Board of Trustees, we're looking for the best because we only want what's best for our students" For more information on the student positions click here or for information on how to apply to be an external trustee, click here.
