National Student Volunteering Week 21-27 Feb 2011

Leeds Met student volunteers from CALM sports coaching and Met TV who were nominated at the V involved youth volunteering awards on Feb 24thSee what we did at Leeds Met SU to support and recognise the contribution of student volunteers across the country.
Now in it's 10th year, Volunteering England's Student Volunteering Week, sponsored by Santander, brings organisations from all sectors together to celebrate volunteering by students in Higher and Further Education (Click here for more info about VE's national week of student volunteering).
What we did during volunteering week at Leeds Met Students Union
- 20 students joined in with local volunteers from BTCV and Aire Action Leeds to improve a public green space next to the Leeds Liverpool canal at Kirkstall Brewery
- Collected over 500kg glass for recycling from residential homes in Hyde Park on our electric milk float
- Trained 19 new volunteers how to face paint tigers, butterflies and spiderman for our kids projects and community festivals
- Trained 6 student project leaders in how to attract and keep good volunteers
- Our student-led tv station team 'Met TV' and 5 CALM sports coaching volunteers were nominated for awards at the glittering V involved Youth Volunteering Awards night.
