Student Union Participation Awards

The Participation Awards is now in its fourth year, it is a chance for the Student Union to showcase and reward the students that have been involved in Union activities throughout the year. These include societies, volunteering, union community reps, STARS, the student media, student representative council, diversity convenors, campaigns and the 30 plus student forums that we currently have in the Student Union.

This year, 2010, there were a record number of people who attended the event, 221. The event was held in Ghandi Hall with an after party in The Union bar at Headingley. The awards ceremony lasted just under 2 hours and 39 trophies were given out to the most committed students. This year the event was the culmination of the Student Union's celebrations of it's 40th anniversary.

Susan Price the Vice Chancellor at Leeds Met University attended and gave a short speech as did Aaron Porter the current NUS president and there were six alumni students who came back to present awards.

This year there were 24 students involved in the planning of the event or who helped out on the night, this was in the main why it was the most successful participation awards the Student Union has held so far.
